Hi Christine,
I’d be honored if you shared our experience with others who share our
commitment to bringing people together to address issues that have been
ignored too long in a civil, constructive manner that harvests the wisdom
of the participants in a respectful way. We will be putting a detailed
report together in the next few weeks that I think will summarize what we
did, why we chose the approaches we did, how we did it, what worked, what
didn’t, and recommendations based on what we learned.
Hope you had a wonderful vacation up north!
Maureen

John, Maureen and all,
I am inspired by the integrity of your follow-through and the design
of your Civil Conversation. Maureen, dinner at your home takes the
World Cafe to another level.
Inviting a friend with an opposing point of view on immigration is
such an elegant way to host conversations that are lively and filled
with deep listening to explore diverse viewpoints!
I can imagine your model spreading. May I share your story with the
World Cafe and the National Coalition of Dialogue and Deliberation
online communities?
Warm wishes,
Christine

Project Civil Discourse folks,
At the Aug 31 meeting following the Aug 19 event at Rio Salado, it
was suggested that we try small informal gatherings. I took that
idea to the other people who had signed up to Create Community
Dialogue: Maureen Bureson, Jessica Hirshorn, Rich Doerrer-Peacock,
and Jon Rosenthal. The group (other than Jon, who could not be
reached) agreed to the concept: a get-together with the four of us,
with each inviting a friend with a viewpoint in opposition to our own.
On October 25, Maureen hosted a group of nine for dinner and lively
conversation about immigration. This email is just to let you know
that we followed through and pulled it off, and that every person in
the room felt that they had been heard. We will be sending you a
more detailed report when time permits.
This email is being sent to the Collaborative Spark email list
provided to me by Robin Postel, and to Bruce Meyerson (and cc’d to
the Create Community Dialogue volunteers). I’ll use this same
distribution list when we send our report. Please let me know if
any email addresses should be added or deleted.
